About
Speedo
Speedo was founded in 1914 and started trading under the brand name "Fortitude". The company was started by a young Scot called Alexander MacRae, who migrated to Australia in 1910, and set up an underwear manufacture business called MacRae Hosiery manufacturers. In response to the growing beach culture in Australia, MacRae quickly expanded his operations to include swimwear.
Speedo has come to dominate competitive swimming, with an increasing number of athletes choosing to endorse the Speedo brand. The brand grew globally particularly during the 1950s and 1960s when a European, Japanese and South African presence was established.
In the last few years, Speedo has entered collaborations with famous designers such as Melissa Odabash and Comme des Garcons and has also made significant improvements to its lightweight fabrics.
Speedo offers a wide range of swimwear for professional athletes and amateurs, including women's, men's and children's swimsuits, equipment, for example goggles, watches, MP3 players, caps, training aids, towels and sunglasses, and footwear.
